THE WISDOM — AL-Kita’b and Al-Hikmah
[Notes: This is an essential reading to debunk Mullah’s claim of Al-Hikmah as in the manmade hadith books. You will find how God teaches HIS servants The Wisdom – Al-Hikmah by HIS Kita’b.]
The concept of Al-Hikmah according to God in HIS narration in the Quran (2:129) and men in the manmade narration in volumes of books seem in a confrontation in a disagreement in terms of its origin and epistemology. God says wisdom (hikmah) is in HIS Kita’b in the Quran, by which HE taught wisdom (hikmah) to all HIS Prophets and Messengers as well as all HIS chosen righteous servants. Men in the religious domain seem to disagree with God’s defined wisdom and its source. As such, an exploration of the relevant verses in the Quran can reveal the inherent meaning of the quality of God given wisdom (al-hikmah) to bash on those manmade concepts and sources.
At the outset, the conversation between God and Abraham plays a significant insight of this God given quality to ascertain the context, background, and audience in Quran 2:129.
[Quran 2:124] “And, when Abraham was tried by his Lord with commands and he fulfilled them. [ God ] said, “Indeed, I will make you a leader for the people.” [Abraham] said, “And of my descendants?” [ God ] said, “My covenant does not include the wrongdoers.”وَإِذِ ابْتَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ رَبُّهُ بِكَلِمَاتٍ فَأَتَمَّهُنَّ ۖ قَالَ إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا ۖ قَالَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۖ قَالَ لَا يَنَالُ عَهْدِي الظَّالِمِينَ – 2:124
[Quran 2:128] Our Lord, and make us submitters [Muslims] to You and from our descendants a submitting [Muslim] nation to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَا أُمَّةً مُّسْلِمَةً لَّكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ – 2:128
[Quran 2:129] Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ – 2:129
[2:130] And who would be hostile to the principle (millata) of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself. And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous.وَمَن يَرْغَبُ عَن مِّلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِلَّا مَن سَفِهَ نَفْسَهُ ۚ وَلَقَدِ اصْطَفَيْنَاهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَإِنَّهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ – 2:130
[ Quran 2:131] When his Lord said to him, “Submit”, he said “I have submitted [being Muslim] to the Lord of the worlds.”إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ رَبُّهُ أَسْلِمْ ۖ قَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ – 2:131
[2:132] And Abraham instructed his sons and Jacob, [saying], “O my sons, indeed God has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Submitters [Muslims].”وَوَصَّىٰ بِهَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعْقُوبُ يَا بَنِيَّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَىٰ لَكُمُ الدِّينَ فَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ – 2:132
What is Al-Hikmah [the wisdom] in the Quran?
[Quran 2:231] “And when you divorce women and they have fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable terms or release them according to acceptable terms, and do not keep them, intending harm, to transgress. And whoever does that has certainly wronged himself. And do not take the verses of God in joke. And REMEMBER THE FAVOUR OF GOD UPON YOU and what has been revealed to you of THE BOOK AND WISDOM by which HE INSTRUCTS you. And fear Allah and know that Allah is Knowing of all things”.وَإِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَبَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ سَرِّحُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ ۚ وَلَا تُمْسِكُوهُنَّ ضِرَارًا لِّتَعْتَدُوا ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَقَدْ ظَلَمَ نَفْسَهُ ۚ وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوا آيَاتِ اللَّهِ هُزُوًا ۚ وَاذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَا أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ الْكِتَابِ وَالْحِكْمَةِ يَعِظُكُم بِهِ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ – 2:231
[Quran 36:1-2] Ya, Seen ….And the Quran Al Hakim [the Wise]يس – 36:1 وَالْقُرْآنِ الْحَكِيمِ – 36:2
[Quran 3:58] This is what WE recite to you, of [Our] verses and the reminder and AL HAKIM [The Wise].ذَٰلِكَ نَتْلُوهُ عَلَيْكَ مِنَ الْآيَاتِ وَالذِّكْرِ الْحَكِيمِ – 3:58
[Quran 10:1] Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the wise Book [Al Kita’bil HAKIM]الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْحَكِيمِ – 10:1
• God taught Jesus (AS) AL-KITA’B and AL HIKMAH
[Quran 5:110] when Allah will say, “O Jesus, Son of Mary, remember My favour upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the Pure Spirit and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and WHEN I TAUGHT YOU THE BOOK and WISDOM and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you designed from clay like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the Children of Israel from you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, “This is not but obvious magic.”إِذْ قَالَ اللَّهُ يَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ اذْكُرْ نِعْمَتِي عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَىٰ وَالِدَتِكَ إِذْ أَيَّدتُّكَ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ تُكَلِّمُ النَّاسَ فِي الْمَهْدِ وَكَهْلًا ۖ وَإِذْ عَلَّمْتُكَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَالتَّوْرَاةَ وَالْإِنجِيلَ ۖ وَإِذْ تَخْلُقُ مِنَ الطِّينِ كَهَيْئَةِ الطَّيْرِ بِإِذْنِي فَتَنفُخُ فِيهَا فَتَكُونُ طَيْرًا بِإِذْنِي ۖ وَتُبْرِئُ الْأَكْمَهَ وَالْأَبْرَصَ بِإِذْنِي ۖ وَإِذْ تُخْرِجُ الْمَوْتَىٰ بِإِذْنِي ۖ وَإِذْ كَفَفْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَنكَ إِذْ جِئْتَهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْهُمْ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ – 5:110
• Disciple of Jesus became submitters [muslims] [ Quran 5:111] And when I inspired the disciples, “Believe in Me and in My messenger Jesus.” They said, “We have believed, so bear witness that indeed we are submitters [Muslims to God]”.
وَإِذْ أَوْحَيْتُ إِلَى الْحَوَارِيِّينَ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِي وَبِرَسُولِي قَالُوا آمَنَّا وَاشْهَدْ بِأَنَّنَا مُسْلِمُونَ – 5:111
• So, it is not any human, whosoever s/he is/was, can give and teach THE WISDOM [AL HIKMAH] to anyone – it is rather truly The God Almighty who teaches the BOOK, by which HE teaches and gives WISDOM [Al HIKMAH] whoever HE wills.
[Quran 2:269] “HE gives WISDOM [AL HIKMAH] to whom HE wills, and whoever has been given WISDOM [AL HIKMAH] has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding”.يُؤْتِي الْحِكْمَةَ مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَن يُؤْتَ الْحِكْمَةَ فَقَدْ أُوتِيَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا ۗ وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّا أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ – 2:269
• Furthermore, see how God addressed the people of those who were with the Messenger of God during his lifetime.
[ Quran 2:151] “Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and TEACHING you the Book and THE WISDOM [AL HIKMAH] and TEACHING you that which you did not know”.فَهَزَمُوهُم بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَقَتَلَ دَاوُودُ جَالُوتَ وَآتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْمُلْكَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَعَلَّمَهُ مِمَّا يَشَاءُ ۗ وَلَوْلَا دَفْعُ اللَّهِ النَّاسَ بَعْضَهُم بِبَعْضٍ لَّفَسَدَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ – 2:251
• Notice, how God told those people who were with the Messenger of God in his time. Note, the audience in the following verse where God instructed the people in general, given that the word ‘you’ is to be read in plural form (alykum عَلَيْكُمْ). In doing so, in the instruction to the people, God confirms that HIS Book, the Quran is The Wisdom [Al Hikmah], by which HE guides us whoever HE wills.
[Quran 2:231] “And when you divorce women and they have fulfilled their term, either retain them according to acceptable terms or release them according to acceptable terms, and do not keep them, intending harm, to transgress. And whoever does that has certainly wronged himself. And do not take the verses of Allah in jest. and REMEMBER the favour of God upon you and WHAT HAS BEEN REVEALED TO YOU OF THE BOOK AND THE WISDOM [AL HIKMAH] BY WHICH HE INSTRUCTS YOU. and fear God and know that God is Knowing of all things”.وَإِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَبَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ سَرِّحُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ ۚ وَلَا تُمْسِكُوهُنَّ ضِرَارًا لِّتَعْتَدُوا ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَقَدْ ظَلَمَ نَفْسَهُ ۚ وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوا آيَاتِ اللَّهِ هُزُوًا ۚ وَاذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَا أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ الْكِتَابِ وَالْحِكْمَةِ يَعِظُكُم بِهِ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ – 2:231
[Quran 33:34] “And remember WHAT IS RECITED in your houses OF THE VERSES OF GOD and THE WISDOM [AL HIKMAH]. Indeed, Allah is ever Subtle and Acquainted”.وَاذْكُرْنَ مَا يُتْلَىٰ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَالْحِكْمَةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ لَطِيفًا خَبِيرًا – 33:34
Clearly, The Book, the QURAN and The WISDOM is the same thing. The Quran is the words and verses of God, by which HE guides those who seek HIS guidance and by HIS Guidance in the Kita’b He teaches the wisdom [Al Hikmah] to whom HE wishes. See more about the word Al-Hikmah in the Quran, which has been used in 19 verses in the Quran for a total of 20 times (mentioned twice in 2:269).
• God tells that all Prophets were given the Book and Al-Hikmah (The Wisdom).
[Quran 3:81] “And when Allah took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], “Whatever I give you of THE BOOK AND WISDOM and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you believe in him and support him.”[God] said, “Have you acknowledged and taken upon that My commitment?” They said, “We have acknowledged it.” He said, “Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.”وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ النَّبِيِّينَ لَمَا آتَيْتُكُم مِّن كِتَابٍ وَحِكْمَةٍ ثُمَّ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَكُمْ لَتُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهِ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُ ۚ قَالَ أَأَقْرَرْتُمْ وَأَخَذْتُمْ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُمْ إِصْرِي ۖ قَالُوا أَقْرَرْنَا ۚ قَالَ فَاشْهَدُوا وَأَنَا مَعَكُم مِّنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ – 3:81
• God uses the same term HE used for the Messenger in the Quran, telling us that he gave Jesus the Book and Hikmah (wisdom). In Quran 5:48, God repeats in reminding that HE gave Jesus the Kita’b and the Hikmah (the wisdom) as in Quran 5:110.
[Quran 3:45-48] “When the angels said, “O Mary, indeed God gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary – distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near. He will speak to the people in the cradle and in maturity and will be of the righteous.” She said, “My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?” [The angel] said, “Such is God ; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is. And HE WILL TEACH HIM THE BOOK and THE WISDOM and the Torah and the Gospel”.إِذْ قَالَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ يَا مَرْيَمُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٍ مِّنْهُ اسْمُهُ الْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ وَجِيهًا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ – 3:45 وَيُكَلِّمُ النَّاسَ فِي الْمَهْدِ وَكَهْلًا وَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ – 3:46 قَالَتْ رَبِّ أَنَّىٰ يَكُونُ لِي وَلَدٌ وَلَمْ يَمْسَسْنِي بَشَرٌ ۖ قَالَ كَذَٰلِكِ اللَّهُ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ ۚ إِذَا قَضَىٰ أَمْرًا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ – 3:47 وَيُعَلِّمُهُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَالتَّوْرَاةَ وَالْإِنجِيلَ – 3:48
• In 43:63 God tells that Jesus (AS) told his people that he had brought them the Hikmah (wisdom) that God taught him by HIS Kita’b.
[Quran 43:63] “And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, “I have come to you with WISDOM [Bil Hikmah] and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allah and obey me”.وَلَمَّا جَاءَ عِيسَىٰ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ قَالَ قَدْ جِئْتُكُم بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَلِأُبَيِّنَ لَكُم بَعْضَ الَّذِي تَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ – 43:63
• God tells that he gave the Hikmah (Wisdom) to Prophet David
[Quran 2: 251] “So they defeated them by permission of God, and David killed Goliath, and God gave him the kingdom and THE WISDOM [AL HIKMAH] and taught him from that which He willed. And if it were not for Allah checking people by means of others, the earth would have been corrupted, but Allah is full of bounty to the worlds”.فَهَزَمُوهُم بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَقَتَلَ دَاوُودُ جَالُوتَ وَآتَاهُ اللَّهُ الْمُلْكَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَعَلَّمَهُ مِمَّا يَشَاءُ ۗ وَلَوْلَا دَفْعُ اللَّهِ النَّاسَ بَعْضَهُم بِبَعْضٍ لَّفَسَدَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ – 2:251
• God tells us that He gave Abraham’s family the Kita’b and Al-Hikmah (the wisdom).
[Quran 4:54] “Or do they envy people for what God has given them of HIS bounty? But we had already given the family of Abraham THE BOOK AND THE WISDOM [AL HIKMAH] and conferred upon them a great kingdom”.أَمْ يَحْسُدُونَ النَّاسَ عَلَىٰ مَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ ۖ فَقَدْ آتَيْنَا آلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَآتَيْنَاهُم مُّلْكًا عَظِيمًا – 4:54
• God tells us that He gave Prophet Luqman the Hikmah (wisdom).
[Quran 31:12] “And We had certainly given Luqman AL HIKMAH (THE WISDOM): “Be grateful to God .” And whoever is grateful is grateful for himself. And whoever denies – then indeed, God is Free of need and Praiseworthy.وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا لُقْمَانَ الْحِكْمَةَ أَنِ اشْكُرْ لِلَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَشْكُرْ فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهِ ۖ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٌ – 31:12
• God says that It is the Quran, which is full of Hikmah (wisdom), so that the believers should use such God-given wisdom in inviting people to the path of God.
[Quran 16:125] “Invite to the way of your Lord with WISDOM [Bil Hikmah] and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided”.ادْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ ۖ وَجَادِلْهُم بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِ ۖ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ – 16:125
• As in 10:1 and 3:58, God describes the Quran is as the Book of Hikmah (wisdom).
[Quran 31:2-3] “These are verses of the WISE BOOK [KITABIL HAKIM], as guidance and mercy for the doers of good”.تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ الْحَكِيمِ – هُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ – 31:3 31:2
[Quran 43:4] “And indeed it is, in the Mother of the BOOK with Us, exalted and full of WISDOM [Haki’m]”.وَإِنَّهُ فِي أُمِّ الْكِتَابِ لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ – 43:4.
• God explains what the word HIKMAH (WISDOM) means; so those who produce opinion is contrary to what God defines, s/he essentially commit blasphemy in this regard, in so far as the wisdom relates to God’s Deen.
[Quran 17: 36-39] “And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart – about all those [one] will be questioned. And do not walk upon the earth exultantly. Indeed, you will never tear the earth [apart], and you will never reach the mountains in height. All that – its evil is ever, in the sight of your Lord, detested. That is from what your Lord has revealed to you, of THE WISDOM [AL HIKMAH]. And, do not make with Allah another deity, lest you be thrown into Hell, blamed and banished”.وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۚ إِنَّ السَّمْعَ وَالْبَصَرَ وَالْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُولَٰئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْئُولًا – 17:36 وَلَا تَمْشِ فِي الْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّكَ لَن تَخْرِقَ الْأَرْضَ وَلَن تَبْلُغَ الْجِبَالَ طُولًا – 17:37 كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ كَانَ سَيِّئُهُ عِندَ رَبِّكَ مَكْرُوهًا – 17:38 ذَٰلِكَ مِمَّا أَوْحَىٰ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ مِنَ الْحِكْمَةِ ۗ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ فَتُلْقَىٰ فِي جَهَنَّمَ مَلُومًا مَّدْحُورًا – 17:39
God teaches us the WISDOM or AL HIKMAH as HE refers to such a quality in the Quran. This dictates that if any individual who has submitted to God only being a Submitter (Muslim) to God, s/he is not in a position to follow the so-called manmade wisdom or hikmah of any man or even any Prophet of God. Nowhere in the Quran God tells us that Al Hikmah we can also get from those manmade sihah-sittah hadith books. God says it is HIS Book, which is full of wisdom (hikmah) and if we ponder upon HIS verses in the Quran, we might receive such wisdom (hikmah) if HE wills. But relying on those Persian sihah-sttah hadith books, men say that Al-Hikmah, which God teaches by HIS Kita’b is in fact in those Persian stories, myths and narrations as they certify as authentic (Sahih) sihah-sittah hadith books.
So, the message is that – never judge a book by its cover, never take a Verse of the Quran in a cherry-picking approach, which is a habit of those so-called religious scholars and mullahs. God says just to follow HIS Book, HIS verses, HIS guidance and the Hikmah in HIS Book only. So, in pursuing God’s Deen, HE commands us not to follow anything other than HIS verses and HIS Wisdom what HE says. Strictly speaking, we are not in a position to follow the manmade Wisdom (Hikmah), no matter how many people or the majority of those people follow and practice any other manmade wisdom (Hikmah) in the Deen Islam. This is what God says, as that reads:
[Quran 6:116] “And if you obey/follow the majority of those on earth, they will mislead you from the way of God. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying”.وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ – 6:116
Believers, we have no other option, but to ponder upon the Quran (see: 4:82) deeply, leaving all preoccupied conceptions, those of which were given (in being spooned-fed) by those biblical mullahs and religious scholars. When you read a verse, read at least 5-10 verses before and after the said verse to get the context, background, audience and the inherent message in/of the verse in question. In doing such, you will get the holistic meaning and the big picture of the Quran to be guided and to attain God gifted wisdom (hikmah).
