Truth Seekers - A Hanif

                  With the Name of God, The Gracious, The Merciful

And say, “Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Surely, the falsehood is bound to depart.” [Quran:17:81]

وَقُلْ جَآءَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ ۚ ِّنَّ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا

                                  Relevant verses in the Quran about the concept of Hanif:

“They say, ……”Be Jews or Christians, you will be guided.” Say, “Rather, the characteristics (millat-a مِلَّةَ) of Abraham, a Truth Seeker (Hanifa-n حَنِيفًاۖ), and he was not among those who associated others with God.” [Quran 2:135]

وَقَالُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ هُودًا أَوْ نَصَٰرَىٰ تَهْتَدُوا۟ۗ قُلْ بَلْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِۦمَ حَنِيفًاۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a Truth Seeker (Hanifa-n حَنِيفًاۖ), a Submitter [Mulima-n مُّسْلِمًا]. And he was not among those who associated others with God.” [Quran 3:67]

مَا كَانَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَٰكِن كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُّسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

Say, “God has told the truth. So, follow the characteristics (millat-a مِلَّةَ) of Abraham, a Truth Seeker (Hanifa-n حَنِيفًاۖ); and he was not among those who associated others with God.” [Quran 3:95]

قُلْ صَدَقَ ٱللَّهُۗ فَٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

“And who could be better in a system (deena-n دِينًا) than those who direct themselves wholly to God, do good, and follow the characteristics (millat-a مِلَّةَ) of Abraham, a Truth Seeker (Hanif-an حَنِيفًاۖ)? God took Abraham as a friend”. (Quran 4:125)

وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ دِينًا مِّمَّنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُۥ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ وَٱتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًاۗ وَٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ خَلِيلًا

Surely, I have turned my attention/ face toward HE who created the heavens and the earth, a Truth Seeker (Hanifa-n حَنِيفًاۖ), and I am not of those who associate others with God.” (Quran 6:79)

إِنِّى وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِىَ لِلَّذِى فَطَرَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًاۖ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

“Say, — “Surely, my Lord has guided me to a easy path – a valuable System, Characteristics of Abraham – a Truth Seeker (Hanifa-n حَنِيفًاۖ). And he was not among those who associated others with God.” [Quran 6:161]

قُلْ إِنَّنِى هَدَىٰنِى رَبِّىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ دِينًا قِيَمًا مِّلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًاۚ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

“And with certainty direct your attention/ face toward the System (lil/d-deen لِلدِّينِ), a Truth Seeker (Hanif-n حَنِيفًا), and never be of those who associate others with God”. [Quran 10: 105]

وَأَنْ أَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفًا وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

“Surely, Abraham was a nation (ummata-n أُمَّةً), dedicated to God, a Truth Seeker (Hanif-n حَنِيفًا), and he was not of those who associate others with God”. [Quran 16:120]

إِنَّ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِّلَّهِ حَنِيفًا وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

“Then We revealed to you that you follow the characteristics (millat-a مِلَّةَ) of Abraham, a Truth Seeker (Hanif-n حَنِيفًا); and he was not of those who associate with God”. [Quran 16:123]

ثُمَّ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ أَنِ ٱتَّبِعْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًاۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ

“So, direct your attention/face to the System (Lil/d-deed لِلدِّينِ) as a Truth Seeker (Hanif-n حَنِيفًا) – God’s nature (fitra فِطْرَتَ) upon which the people (al/n-na’s ٱلنَّاسَ ) are multiplied (fatara فَطَرَ). There is no change in God’s creation. That is the System (Al/d-Deen ٱلدِّينُ), the Guardian (Al-Qayyim-u ٱلْقَيِّمُ) that most of the people do not know”. [Quran 30: 30]

فَأَقِمْ وَجْهَكَ لِلدِّينِ حَنِيفًاۚ فِطْرَتَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِى فَطَرَ ٱلنَّاسَ عَلَيْهَاۚ لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ ٱللَّهِۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلدِّينُ ٱلْقَيِّمُ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
